He also uses digital platforms to educate children, business leaders and decision makers around the world. This documentary for the BBC World Service follows his journey. Their situation was revealed by local organisations searching for vulnerable survivors in the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan. We were shocked to find one man who had been trapped by his family for 16 years; he had been left to die. Another six people were found in the town of San Remigio, northern Cebu, where this film is shot. The first piece I filed for BBC Click focussed on a 'smart policing' project being run in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas by the Igarapé Institute in collaboration with the military police, aimed at minimising conflict between the police and favela residents. It involves using a mobile app to monitor and track police movements. Listen here I also travelled to the remote Amazonian state of Acre, where I met some of the tens of thousands of Haitians who entered Brazil to seek work. Following the devastating earthquake of 2010, many were given humanitarian visas - and many more were still arriving on their own account - in order to find jobs in Brazil's booming economy. But attitudes towards them are mixed. The Batwa are traditional hunter-gatherers finding their place in the modern world. Among those I spoke to was Twenty-two-year-old Alice Nyamihanda, who at the time was the pride of her community, being the first ever to return to her native area with a university diploma. BBC News online featured my interview with her. I also did a travel feature for BBC World News, as some Batwa now work as guides for tourists - giving walking tours of the forests and an insight into their ancient and lost way of life.
